Focused on the Public Information Officer (PIO) function and Joint Information System/Center (JIS/JIC). This course builds capacity to craft clear, credible, and coordinated public messages, handle media, and manage social channels under pressure
The Training Course Will Highlight ?
Training Objective

  • Set up and operate JIS/JIC with partners.
  • Craft messages using risk communication best practices (clarity, empathy, actionability).
  • Manage media briefings, press releases, and stakeholder updates.
  • Monitor and counter misinformation; coordinate with legal and leadership.
  • Produce a Crisis Messaging Playbook with pre-approved templates.

  • PIOs, communications officers, EOC public information staff.
  • Executives and HSE leaders who brief stakeholders.
  • Municipal officers, industrial site spokespersons, CSR/PR teams.

Micro-lectures, message labs, press conference simulations, social listening drills, scenario-based writing, peer reviews, and video feedback.

  • Day 1: Risk & Crisis Communication Foundations
    • Public information in emergencies; trust & credibility
    • Message structure: hazard, impact, protective actions

Day 2: JIS/JIC Operations & Stakeholder Mapping

    • JIS/JIC setup, staffing, workflows, approvals
    • Stakeholder analysis (community, regulators, employees)
    • Exercise: multi-agency message alignment

  • Day 3: Media Handling & Briefings
    • Press conference planning; spokesperson skills
    • Bridging techniques; tough questions

  • Day 4: Digital Channels & Rumor Control
    • Social media ops, monitoring, escalation ladders
    • Misinformation/disinformation tactics and countermeasures

  • Day 5: Capstone & Playbook Finalization
    • Combined scenario; rolling updates and stakeholder emails
    • Coordination with field/EOC; consistency checks
    • Deliverable: Crisis Messaging Playbook (templates, approval flow, media list, social plan)
Accreditation

CDGA attendance certificate will be issued to all attendees completing minimum of 80% of the total course duration.
