Side Tracking & Re-entry Drilling Operation
Course Description
Reference to market demands and reduction of drilling hazards expenses, a well re-entry drilling technique was established. This technique requiring a combination of drilling & work over operation, starting from preparing present well for drilling operations as: killing present well, pulling existing completion string, running casing log for casing integrity, plug and abundant present bay zone and opening window in present casing either by several techniques such as whip-stock, milling window in casing, milling liner hanger & liner overlap plus enough open hole then side track and wells with angle higher than 70 degree and was completed as open hole till drilling and running completion of the new targeted well.

  • Balanced side track cement plug procedure and Calculation

  • High angle wells (above 70 degree) open hole side tracking

Day 3

  • Preparing well for side tracking (for cased hole)
  • Killing well methods.
  • Cement squeeze types, sequences and calculations.
  • Cement bond logs and choice of side tracking area.
  • Opening casing window by milling (sectional mill).
  • P&A well with balanced cement plug.
  • Workshop Sessions

  Day 4

  • Side tracking tools and technique.
  • Whip-stock and back-stock types.
  • Setting procedures for back stocks.
  • Side tracking using back stocks.
  • Re-entry using milling liners technique
  • Re-entry and multi-lateral wells.
  • Side tracking plan
  • Hole cleaning

Day 5

  • Side tracing fluid and Hydraulics.
  • Completion of side tracked wells.
  • Avoiding accidental side tracks.
  • Wrap Up & Final test
Accreditation
