Applied Petrophysics and Reservoir Characterization (Intermediate /Advanced Level)
Course Description
This Course utilizes all forms of data that can support petrophysical and geological analysis of historical and recent wells to produce robust facies schemes and rock types that can be used for history matching. Understanding the best variable type of rocks, different tools needed to acquire the most accurate data, analyze multiple types of logs to determine facies, evaluate the best workflow to derive rock types in integration of all available routine, special core data, upscaling them to log and seismic resolution. This needs to be well understood in relation to the rock type, porosity, permeability, cap curve using the geological framework concept for best undemanding the reservoir static and dynamic models and minimizing the uncertainty in reservoir modeling
The Training Course Will Highlight ?

Learning outcomes participants will learn to:
• Understanding the fundamental reservoir characteristics of different geological plays
• Facies analysis from core and utilizing all the petrophysical parameters derived from core to build robust rock
types.
• Understanding upscaling from thin section, core, borehole images into the geological model through to
simulation
• Understanding log measurements from historical wells to the latest technology and how to incorporate this data
into the reservoir model
• Understand the limitations/ uncertainty of data sets along with measurement requirements for effective reservoir
development
• Looking at the necessary parameters that influence building a successful reservoir models, understanding
geological analogues whilst honouring the petrophysical data
• Learn and how to integrate the petrophysical parameters into the reservoir and model it.

Training Objective

The goals of this training course is to enable the participants to generate petrophysical robust facies and rock types that
support the geological setting. By the end of this training course, participants will learn to:
• Understand different facies models and their sedimentary setting
• Develop petrophysical rock types that support the geological setting
• Determine different rock types using multi methods.
• Design tool strings that are essential to acquire the correct data for facies modelling
• Analyse historical and recent data to identify key parameters and identify the reservoir heterogeneity

Target Audience

This training course is suitable to a wide range of professionals but will greatly benefit:
• Geologists
• Petrophysicists
• Reservoir engineers
• Technical project managers 5
• Exploration managers
• Geo-modellers

Also, subsurface professionals who are supporting field appraisal, development, static or dynamic modeling in
the oil & gas industry. **Participants need knowledge of wireline log analysis and a basic understanding of geology
